Sediment Movement over Type A Piano Key Weirs

چکیده

This investigation deals with the mechanics of movement singular quartz gravel and coarse sand riverbed particles upstream over inlet key three Type A piano weir (PKW) models, which were recorded a high-speed camera. Acoustic Doppler velocimeter was used to obtain bed shear stress. The sediment threshold regime compared previous investigations found be within ranges. Generally, particle decelerates as it approaches key, but accelerates due flow contraction an increase in Rolling saltation regimes observed key. maximum velocity at end highest 1-cycle model, then 2-cycle 3-cycle model. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation shows rapid stress end. For PKW required 17%–43% additional on pass study is useful for in-channel application flushing it.

Comparing the Behavior Hydrodynamics Flow Over of Type A, B, and C Piano Key Weirs

The piano key weir (PKW) is a new type of hydraulic structure that has been of great interest to designers in recent years. In the present study, steady flow on the types A, B, and C PKWs was studied numerically using the FLOW-3D numerical model. Upon software validation using the experimental data, the 3D flow pattern on the types A, B, and C PKWs was studied, and along with the evaluation of ...

Hydraulic design of A-type Piano Key Weirs

Piano Key Weirs (PKWs) are an alternative to linear overflow structures, increasing the unit discharge for similar heads and spillway widths. Thus, they allow to operate reservoirs with elevated supply levels, thereby providing additional storage volume. As they are relatively novel structures, few design criteria are available. Hence, physical model tests of prototypes are required. This study...

From Labyrinth to Piano Key Weirs – A historical review

Free crest spillways are hydraulically efficient and safe in operation. Since their discharge capacity is directly proportional to the crest length several types have been developed with the purpose to increase the length of the latter. Among these types traditional labyrinth weir spillways have been studied and used for a long time. Their hydraulic performance and the effect of the involved ge...

Comparison of hydraulic design equations for A-type Piano Key weirs

Introduction Piano Key weirs (PKWs) are a hydraulically attractive alternative to linear overflow weirs, increasing the unit discharge at the unregulated spillway inlet for similar heads and spillway widths. This advantage, allowing for operation of dam reservoirs on elevated supply levels thus providing an increased retention volume, is a result of the non-linear nature of PKWs being folded ba...

Comparison of Hydraulic Performance of Linear and Nonlinear Piano-Key Weirs in Plan

In this research, by using FLOW3D, the performance of non-linear (arced) piano key (PKW-NL) in plan and linear piano key weir (PKW-L), with equal length of weir, was compared. Results showed that nonlinearity of the weir caused 20% increase in the discharge coefficient. Investigating the velocity contours for these two weir models also showed that maximum velocity within the PKW-NL weir structu...
